A Successful First Day in 2nd Grade!

A Successful First Day in 2nd Grade!

Good Evening Parents!

I hope your child enjoyed their first day in 2nd Grade!  I know I did – it was a complete whirlwind but it was so exciting to meet my new class!  Most of the day we took the time to organize our supplies and talk about some daily routines.  There is so much more to cover through the rest of the week!

If you have not done so already – please email me the best email address for me to contact regularly.  Typically we would have had this information prior to school starting but there has been some delays in updating our school database.  My email is thiller@greenwoodscharter.org.  Until I have the full list of emails I am going to post updates on my website so all families have access to the information.

What came home with your child today:

  • Red Communication Folder – this folder will be coming home daily.  One side of the folder is for items to be returned to school.  The other side of the folder are for items that can stay at home.  The communication folder should be sent back into school each day.
  • Parent and Student Survey – Your first homework!  Please fill these out and send them back as soon as possible.  They are a great way for me to learn more about your child as well as your insight as a parent.
  • Supply Bag – Each student was given a supply bag that can go home with your child each night and come back to school each day.  This is mainly to make sure their supplies are fully stocked or if they need supplies to do homework.  I have TONS of extra supplies from families today (*thank you*) so please let me know if your child needs anything replenished.  Items that should always be in supply bags:  5 sharpened pencils, glue stick, 2 whiteboard markers, scissors, 1 large eraser.  There is a label on each supply bag as a reminder.  Some students had their own supply bags that they said they would like to use instead – which is fine!
  • Backpack Tags – On your child’s bookbag is a backpack tag.  The color denotes their mode of transportation (Yellow = Bus, Orange = Aftercare, Red = Car Rider, Green = Walker).   Please verify the information on the tag is correct.  Contact me if any changes need to be made.  Lastly, please write in your phone numbers in the event that we need to contact you quickly during dismissal for any reason.

Other important information:

  • Authorized Pick Up – If someone other than you will be picking up your child at any time during the school year, please contact Kim Birkmire so they can be added to the Authorized Pick-Up List.
  • Allergy Awareness in Room 133 – This year we have quite a few students with allergies and sensitivities.  We eat snack in the classroom and it is important that you do not send any snacks with Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Sesame Products, Fish or Shellfish.  Lunch is okay because we have tables designated for students with allergies.
  • Supplies and Reimbursement – You still have time to send in supplies or reimbursement money.  If your child is short any supplies we have plenty in the classroom at this point to make sure they are prepared.

I believe that’s it for now!  I will continue to update my website so you can check here daily for updates!  See everyone tomorrow!

One more update!

One more update!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!  Just a couple of more things before the first day on Tuesday!

If you are visiting my website prior to the beginning of school please email me at thiller@greenwoodscharter.org with your child’s name, birthday, best email address to contact you regularly, and the way your child is getting home with bus number if applicable. I want to make sure my information matches yours.

Here are two more things your child can bring to school the first week…

  • 1 Picture of Your New Second Grade from this Summer (if possible) to hang on your child’s locker
  • 1 Complete Change of Clothes – this will stay in your Child’s Locker.  Please make sure all items are labeled and are in a large, labeled Ziploc bag.   Students can need a change of clothes in the event of spills, mud, accidents, etc.
First Day of School

First Day of School

Hi Second Grade Families!

I wanted to make First Day of School information available to you on my website since class email lists are still being organized.

Next week we will spend time getting to know each other and talking about our goals and expectations for second grade.  We will also be learning classroom routines as well as putting policies and procedures into place.

On my 2nd Grade Supply List page you will see a list of items students need for the First Day of School.  You will also see a list of items provided by the school that parents will reimburse.  The cost of these supplies are $15.00 and you can send your payment in with your child on Tuesday.  I will keep any extra supplies that students can use on an as needed basis.

Please remember to send your child with a healthy snack for the morning and a packed lunch.  We will be a peanut free classroom this year.  Snack is eaten in the classroom – please be mindful and keep snacks peanut free.

On Tuesday students will bring home a few surveys.  Fill the surveys out and send them back to school as soon as you get the chance.  This helps me get to know you and your child better!  I will update my survey answers which you can find on the Meet Miss Hiller page!

I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of your children and hope to develop a relationship with you as parents through good and constant communication.  Please email me with any questions you might have and enjoy your long weekend!

See everyone on Tuesday!
