Please send in a complete change of clothes for your child.  Place it in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name and Room 133.  I would suggest you label the clothes as well.  A change of clothes is necessary for a variety of reasons(spills, outdoor mess, accidents).  It will prevent you from having to bring a change of clothes over to school!

A Successful First Day in Second Grade!

A Successful First Day in Second Grade!

Good Evening Parents!

I hope your child enjoyed their first day in 2nd Grade!  I know I did – it was a complete whirlwind but it was so exciting to meet my new class!  Most of the day we took the time to organize our supplies and talk about some daily routines.  There is so much more to cover through the rest of the week!

I am still putting together an entire list of contact information.  Typically we would have had this information prior to school starting but there has been some delays in updating our school database.  Until I have the full list of emails I am going to post updates on my website so all families have access to the information.

What came home with your child today:

  • Red Communication Folder – this folder will be coming home daily.  One side of the folder is for items to be returned to school.  The other side of the folder are for items that can stay at home.  The communication folder should be sent back into school each day.
  • Parent and Student Surveys – Your first homework!  Please fill these out and send them back as soon as possible.  They are a great way for me to learn more about your child as well as your insight as a parent.
  • Supply Bag – Each student was given a supply bag that can go home with your child each night and come back to school each day (we kept them in our desks for tonight).  This is mainly to make sure their supplies are fully stocked or if they need supplies to do homework.  I have TONS of extra supplies from families today (*thank you*) so please let me know if your child needs anything replenished.  Items that should always be in supply bags:  5 sharpened pencils, glue stick, 2 whiteboard markers, scissors, 1 large eraser.  There is a label on each supply bag as a reminder.  Some students had their own supply bags so I said they could keep it as extra.
  • Backpack Tags – On your child’s bookbag is a backpack tag.  The color denotes their mode of transportation (Yellow = Bus, Orange = Aftercare, Red = Car Rider, Green = Walker).   Please verify the information on the tag is correct.  Contact me if any changes need to be made.  I was able to write in a lot of phone numbers on the backpack tags – please double check that I wrote the correct numbers!  If yours is blank, please write in your phone numbers in the event that we need to contact you quickly during dismissal for any reason.

Other important information:

  • Lunch and Snack:  Lunch this year is at 11:24am.  Since lunch is so early, we will be having snack around 2pm each day since our afternoons are so long.  You can pack an extra snack in their lunchbox, but please remind them not to eat it at lunch so they have something in the afternoon.  I will remind them of this too.  Please be sure to send in healthy snacks for your child – you can find more information about snacks, here!
  • Supplies and Reimbursement – You still have time to send in supplies or reimbursement money.  If your child is short any supplies we have plenty in the classroom at this point to make sure they are prepared.

I believe that’s it for now!  I will continue to update my website so you can check here daily for updates!  See everyone tomorrow!

Important First Day Information

Important First Day Information

Good Morning Second Grade Families!

GWCS is working hard to get all important contact information and updates completed.  It can be a complicated process!  Until teachers have access to all of the information, I was hoping you could help me out in the meantime!

1. Please email me (thiller@greenwoodscharter.org) the following information by Monday, so that I can ensure that I have the correct information to get your child home safely on the first day of school:

  • Your child’s name and your name
  • Your email address
  • How your child will be getting home the first week of school (T, W, Th, F)
  • A contact number for you in case their are any transportation issues

*I do have this information for most students from the office, however, some information is incomplete.

2. Please send your child with a healthy snack each day and a labeled reusable bottle of water. When possible please pack snack in a reusable container.

3. Please send your child with a 4×6 photo to be placed on their locker. Write your child’s name on the back of the photo.

4. Please remove all supplies from the packaging BEFORE sending it to school with your child. Place the items in a ziplock bag. (Imagine me trying to help 27 seven year olds open all of that packaging! LOL)

5. Please label the following items with your child’s name – head phones, scissors, clipboard, copybook, water bottle, and $15 cash only – exact change in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name for additional high quality supplies.
